Great Scandinavian co-operations are done lately. One of the most willing Belgian breweries to co-operate is bry. Cantillon from Brussels. Special limited editions, and unique Cantillon brews are made for Scandinavian beerlovers - beer pubs - beer shops. Admirable intitiatives, that's for sure. Already two examples come into my mind:
1) Cantillon Soleil de Minuit. A cloudberry lambic, brewed exclusively for Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden. (www.akkurat.se) 2) Cantillon Grosseille. A redcurrant lambic, brewed exclusively for One Pint Pub, Helsinki, Finland.
The most recent Scandinavian co-operation is Cantillon Blåbær Lambik, a blueberry lambic made with Danish blueberries that is named 'Blåbær Lambik' ('Blueberry Lambic' in Danish). Made exclusively for beershop 'Ølbutikken', located in Copenhagen - Denmark, and will only be sold from there, which means you will have to come to Denmark to get it! The beer shop is owned by Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø & Michael Peyk. It's not the first time that Jeppe co-operates with Belgian breweries or brewery hirers. See also message: http://www.belgianbeerboard.be/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=113 The beer has actually been made two times, first in August 2005 where 25kg blueberries were send to the brewery for the making of 110 litres of blueberry lambic. Unfortunately the berries were in the barrel for too long making half of the batch go sour (!). Only the part of the beer that wasn't in direct contact with the berries turned out good, leaving only 50 bottles..!! Too few to put on the market. So in December 2006 Jeppe and his wife drove to Belgium with 50kg of blueberries for the making of the second batch (this time 225 litres!) The beer fermented for approx. 1½ month before getting bottled in January. The bottles are now waiting to be shipped to Denmark and will be released during a "lambic week" that is held later this spring at the Ølbutikken shop! Both years will be released at the same time and the 2005 will of course be VERY limited and rare! BTW, the plan is the have the beer made every year from now on. Jeppe and his partner Michael are extremely excited to have "their own" Cantillon, just like One Pint and Akkurat! Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø and Jean van Roy from bry. Cantillon
A nice picture report has been made by Jeppe about the making of this extreme rare Blåbær Lambic. The direct link: www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2095147806 Here's the wooden barrel ready to be filled !
Jeppe pouring the Cantillon Lambic straight into the barrel.
The blueberries awaiting to be inserted next.
Needless to say that wonderful co-operations like that should get maximum attention on the Belgian Beer Board ! Cheers, Filip
