Hi, Time for an excellent house beer. Tasted last weekend here in Bruges at famous beer pub Staminee De Garre. Staminee De Garre is quite difficult to find, as this bar is located inside a tiny alley somewhere between the Markt (big plaza) to the Burg (the smaller plaza). Staminee De Garre interior - picture is taken towards the bar.
We were very lucky to find some space left. We found a small table next to the entrance. Be aware, this pub is very tiny, even including the second floor. Finding an empty table is what I call having some big luck. Last Saturday, it was impossible to find a seat, as already a big crowd was waiting for people to leave. You must know that the shops are open on Saturday, so that could well be the reason for the mass of people that day. Sunday on the other hand, it's just that little bit less crowded, and indeed we did found one empty table left ! Time to choose some great beer. A choice of about 130 beers is a nice reality.

A glance into the big menu book - From tap: Tripel van De Garre - Celis White - Gulden Draak (click the pic for big) The cooperation with bry. Van Steenberge is obvious ! We went for the excellent Tripel van De Garre ! Nicely presented on a platter with lace pattern pad. A small portion of cheese to go with. Great presentation.
This time pictured without flash light. Big creamy white head. Nice amber to orange colored beer. Hazy appearance. This beer is 11vol% heavy !! Interesting to know that a maximum of three Tripel van De Garre's are served per person (the same for the Gulden Draak). A very wise decision, most probably the result of some bad previous experiences with ignorant customers!
It's amazing how creamy the foam really is. Observe this picture and convince yourself that we are dealing with quite some excellent quality !
Even at the time of finishing the beer, there still is that presence of that creamy layer, but at that time that much thinner. We see the typical Van Steenberge commissioned glass here. The same shape as the other glasses from Van Steenberge commissioned beers as Moppie or Klokke Roeland. See messages: New Housebeer "Waterhuis aan de Bierkant" - Klokke Roeland - 11.5 vol% and New: Café Moppie - 400 Beers @ € 2.00 Each ! Really fine glasses to have some fine beer with.
Smelling the glass is a wonderful sensation. It gives that typical tripel Piraat flavours. Alcoholic (yes, alot here), and the finest malts with perfect hoppy accents. I noticed some fruity ester flavours too. Kind of peaches. Tasting gives a very dense beer. Alot of taste concentrations here. A beer to savour with care. Again, those fruity, peachy accents. Nice hoppy with just that right amount of malty flavours. This beer is quite sweet too. Alot of sugars left here. makes it a bit sugar sticky.... but not too much really. I call this a warming winter beer. Excellent for cold winter times. It's amazing how this beer resembles to the other Van Steenberge Tripels as Piraat (10.5 vol%) and La Bière du Boucanier Blonde (11 vol%). Three beers that are nearly the same beers, but after personally asking at the brewery, they confirmed all three beers are original ! Anyway, I'm 100% sure that the mother beer is the same for all three beers. You can trust me on that matter. This is "masterly" brewing people !!! Have it a try when you visit Bruges some day.......
