Like I already mentioned somewhere here on the Belgian Beer Board.
Last Sunday we found four new www.beerpubmap.be entries, located on the east side of East-Flanders, and this thanks to the ever marvelous Bob Hendrickx "201 Original Cafes in East- and West-Flanders" booklet. see: http://www.bloggen.be/originelecafes/

100 beers ! Yes, that is what Cultuurcafé Berlare has on offer !

Inside Cultuurcafé Berlare we notice those two cabinets, filled with Trappist breweriana.
No wonder, as Cultuurcafé Berlare is Orval ambassador, and offers "all" the Trappist beers.
This time, no Trappist beer was tasted. Instead, we went for a new beer.
A new beer brewed at bry. Lefebvre, which is called HOPUS.
As the name already reveals, this is a hoppy beer, much in the line of all those wonderful new hoppy Belgian beers that we've seen coming alive the last couple of years. A most wonderful hoppy trend.

Already, we notice that beautiful, accompanying, big tasting glass.

Interesting to show you that the last portion of the bottle, the portion containing the yeast sediment, is poured separately into a convenient small glass. The "yeast shot" if you want. A habbit which was already seen with Trappist Orval.
Anyway, a wonderful surplus value when ordering that new beer.

The coaster is also made bigger, so that the yeast shot nicely fits on the left. See the two circles.

Tasting the beer gives great hoppy flavours. Not too overwhelming, but pleasantly detected.
Five different hop varieties are inserted, which gives the beer a complex flowery treat.
Amazing how soft this beer is. The soft water is responsible for that. VERY soft !
Also, I noticed a candi sugar sweetness, perfectly balancing out the hop bitterness. Something spicy was noticed too.... very subtle.
This orange blond, somewhat hazy beer has a great white foam. Very similar to the Duvel head. This means, it evolves into rocky structures.
With its 8.5 vol%, a great body has been achieved, and I certainly would classify this beer between a Golden Ale and a Triple. It really has the best of both.

Yes, I'm excited !!!!!
