Not really a new beer pub but rather confirmation that one that we thought had closed has not - in fact it is doing excellent work.

The BACKDOOR , 26 St. Amandstraat (T 09 225 25 79) in Gent is one block up the hill from St Pietersplein, in the middle of the city?s student area.  It has an excellent list of 150 beers that can match anything in town and a huge (1000+?) CD collection of all types of better modern music.  The owner used to run the Defoo on the opposite corner and is deliberate trying to get students and other young people to try better beers.  The worldly-wise may feel a little cellar-aged here but swallow hard and enjoy watching education in progress.
